Overall Goal:

  • The percentage of all students who score proficient in Reading in grades 9th & 11th will continue to exceed the Public Education Department's (PED) Annual Measurable Objective (AMO) of 56% proficient as measured by the New Mexico Standards Based Assessment (NMSBA).

Target Goal/Measure:

African American

·        The percentage of all 9 and 11 grade African American  students proficient in Reading will increase by 12.52% from 43.48% to 56% (AMO) proficient as measured NMSBA.

  • The percentage of all 9,10 and 11 grade African Amercian students proficient in Reading will increase by 10% as measured by A2L three times a year.

 

 

Hispanic

·        The percentage of all 9 and 11 grade Hispanic students proficient in Reading will increase by 15.43% from 40.57% to 56% (AMO) proficient as measured NMSBA.

·        The percentage of all 9,10 and 11 grade Hispanic students proficient in Reading will increase by 10% as measured by A2L three times a year.

 

Native American

·        The percentage of all 9 and 11 grade Native American students proficient in Reading will increase by 18.79% from 37.21% to 56% (AMO) proficient as measured NMSBA.

·        The percentage of all 9,10 and 11 grade Native American students proficient in Reading will increase by 10% as measured by A2L three times a year.

 

ELL

·        The percentage of all 9 and 11 grade English Language Learners (ELL) students proficient in Reading will increase by 38.46% from 17.54% to 56% (AMO) proficient as measured NMSBA.

  • The percentage of all 9,10 and 11 grade ELL students proficient in Reading will increase by 10% as measured by A2L three times a year.

SWD

·        The percentage of all 9 and 11 grade Students with Disabilities (SWD)  students proficient in Reading will increase by 46.65% from 9.35% to 56% (AMO) proficient as measured NMSBA.

·        The percentage of all 9,10 and 11 grade SWD students proficient in Reading will increase by 10% as measured by A2L three times a year.

 

EconDis

·        The percentage of all 9 and 11 grade Economically Disadvantages (EconDis)  students proficient in Reading will increase by 19.81% from 36.19% to 56% (AMO) proficient as measured NMSBA.

·        The percentage of all 9,10 and 11 grade EconDis students proficient in Reading will increase by 10% as measured by A2L three times a year.

Data analysis:

African-American

·        The attached data indicate that 56.52% of all African-American students did not meet AMO proficiency in Reading as measured by the NMSBA. We do not know which students are struggling or at what level they are performing.

 

All Students

§        Fall Reading A2L testing was conducted using the paper version and results have not been received yet.  Winter A2L testing will occur in January 2008 which will allow MHS to measure growth and adjust instruction based on what the data shows.  Winter A2L will use the computer version of the test.

 

Hispanic

·        The attached data indicate that 59.43% of all Hispanic students did not meet AMO proficiency in Reading as measured by the NMSBA. We do not know which students are struggling or at what level they are performing.

 

 

Native American

·        The attached data indicate that 62.79% of all Native American students did not meet AMO proficiency in Reading as measured by the NMSBA. We do not know which students are struggling or at what level they are performing.

 

 

ELL

·        The attached data indicate that 82.46% of all ELL students did not meet AMO proficiency in Reading as measured by the NMSBA. We do not know which students are struggling or at what level they are performing.

 

 

SWD

·        The attached data indicate that 90.65% of all SWD students did not meet AMO proficiency in Reading as measured by the NMSBA. We do not know which students are struggling or at what level they are performing.

EconDis

·        The attached data indicate that 63.81% of all EconDis students did not meet AMO proficiency in Reading as measured by the NMSBA. We do not know which students are struggling or at what level they are performing.

Plan

Identify Strategy to be used with Target group to remedy AYP

All Students:

·        We will begin to fully implement Teaching & Learning with Text (TLWT) strategies in all classes to include all subgroups. (TLWT is a resource to help classroom teachers implement standards with success)

All Students:

§        MHS is investigating various types of schedules that will allow additional time in the duty day for interventions for all students who are not proficient in reading.

§        TLWT final phase training will occur at theJan 7th PD.

  All Students:

§        Following are reading interventions being used with all students who are not proficient:

ü     SRA Corr. Reading

ü     Wilson Reading

ü     Lexia Comp. Program

ü     Fast Forward Computer Program

·        Due to the large number of subgroups not meeting the AMO targets, we will review readling levels from the NMSBA and HS Competency Test of all students to identify which students are not proficient.

·        All teachers of identified non-proficient readers will be notified of student status so they can implement additional sheltered instruction.

ELL and SWD:

·        more time on literature, writing and grammer tasks will be added to these classes
