Graduation Requirements for Current Classes

All students must earn 23 credits for graduation, divided as follows:

In order to receive a diploma, New Mexico law requires a passing score on the New Mexico High School Competency Examination for all students.

* Science credits increase to three beginning with the grade class of 2005-2006.

* Math credits must include a minimum of Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II beginning with the grade class of 2004-2005.

* Communication Skills Options
   Successful completion of one of the following:
     - Communication Skills class
     - Three years of foreign language - one at the third year level required

* Elective courses should reflect your Career Pathway and interests areas

These requirements are established by Albuquerque Public Schools and the State of New Mexico.

Requirements by grade

Current and Next Year's Freshmen,
graduating classes of 2009 and 2010

  • You must earn a 23 credits total to graduate.
  • You must take at least 6 classes.
  • You must enroll in English 9, Biology, Health and a mathematics class.
  • You will have to earn at least 5 credits to be classified as a sophomore the following year.

Current and Next Year's Sophomores,
graduating classes of 2008 and 2009

  • You must earn a 23 credits total to graduate.
  • You must take at least 6 classes.
  • You must enroll in English 10 and Communication Skills. (English 9 is a prerequisite for English 10.)
  • You must enroll in World History & Geogaphy, a math class, and other classes required for graduation.
  • You must earn at least 11 credits to be classified as a junior the following year.

Current and Next Year's Juniors,
graduating classes of 2007 and 2008

  • You must earn a 23 credits total to graduate.
  • You must enroll in English 11
    (English 10 is a prerequisite for English 11.)
  • You must enroll in U.S. History & Geogaphy, a math class, and other classes required for graduation.
  • You must take a minimum of six classes unless you are enrolled in a work-study program.
  • You must earn at least 17 credits to be classified as a senior the following year.

Current and Next Year's Seniors,
graduating classes of 2006 and 2007

  • You must earn a 23 credits total to graduate.
  • You must enroll in English 12
    (English 11 is a prerequisite for English 12.)
  • You must enroll in English, World History & Geography, Government, Economics and other classes required for graduation.
  • You must take a minimum of three classes.
