Lettering applications for band, jazz band, and color guard need to be filled out completely and put in the band director's basket no later than the end of 1st period on Wednesday, April 23, 2008.

Purpose

The purpose of the letter award is to encourage and reward "above and beyond" activity in band and in musical activities of all types.  Letters are awarded at the annual spring band banquet.  Any student can own and wear a letter jacket before earning the letter that is sewn on the front.

Requirements to Letter in Band, Jazz Band, and Color Guard

1.	Maintain eligibility according to NMAA guidelines for the entire year.
2.	Complete at least one year of participation in the applicable program, with no grading period being lower than a B-.
3.	Participate in "every" performance given by the groups of which the student is a member, except as excused by the director.
4.	Accumulate 100 points under the applicable system for band, jazz band, or color guard.

POINTS MAY NOT BE CARRIED OVER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT!!!

The service points and miscellaneous points must be earned and accumulated throughout the entire school year.  Documentation of points earned is required at the time the letter application is due.  The maximum points to be awarded are stated very clearly and this amount will not be exceeded at the time of lettering.  All points awarded by the directors (both service and participation) should be noted and initialed on some type of documentation at the time of the event. Documentation is key to earning these points.  Do not expect the directors to remember what you have done through the year!  Write it down, have the director initial it as it happens, and keep the documentation in our "band letter" folder.  You must keep all of the documentation for lettering until the time has been announced to submit your application for a letter in late spring.
Earn points NOW; don't wait and ask for them as a gift later!!!
