General Program Information

Whether you are new to the program or a returning player/family, here is some general information to help you understand expectations  and plan for the upcoming season:

PROGRAM SUPPORT: When your son becomes part of the Manzano basketball team, you as a parent become part of the booster club.  The basketball program consists of a summer program (which includes weight training, a summer league, camps, and tournaments), preseason training, the regular season, senior recognition events, and an awards banquet.  There are on average 36 players in the program playing at three levels; Varsity, JV, and C-Team.  Total annual expenses is between $24,000 and $30,000 per year.

To meet these expenses, each player is required to pay an annual fee to participate in the program.  Sponsorships and fundraisers are required to make up the difference.  Without your support in obtaining sponsors and making our fundraisers successful, additional player fee assessments would be required.  Players are given opportunities to raise money to help them meet this obligation.  The teams are usually announced the first week of November and the player fee is due by the end of the November.  The fee must be paid before players receive their gear.

FUNDRAISERS: Some of our fundraisers benefit the team as a whole.  Our team fundraisers include UNM games, merchandise and concession sales, Applebee's nights, and our golf tournament.  Other fundraisers benefit the players individually.  These include a carwash, program book ads, and a free-throw-a-thon.

SALES: One of our fundraisers is selling merchandise (hats, t-shirts, paws, and pompoms) and working in the concession stand at specified home games.  A member of each player's family is required to work at one game selling merchandise or working in the concession stand.  Coverage during games is arranged so that no one has to work during their son's game.
