NM STATE FAIR – SEPTEMBER 9, 2017 

The MHS Royal Guard is #55 in the parade lineup (out of about 280 entries).  See below for schedule: 

 

     6:45 AM - Call Time

     7:15 AM - Load Buses & Instrument Trailer

     7:30 AM - Arrive at Parade Start Point, Unload, Warm-up

      8:30 AM – Parade Starts, MHS Royal Guard is #55

      9:00-9:30 AM – MHS Royal Guard starts marching in parade

     12:00 Noon (Approx):  Back at MHS Band Room

 

  • Wear your purple band show shirt, nice jeans, comfortable shows (will NOT be wearing marching uniforms, but must be dressed alike in show shirts and jeans)– our band will be judged for appearance and entertainment value

  • We should be back at Manzano between 11:00 am and Noon.

  • We need a parent to volunteer who owns a truck to help load the trailer and drive instruments to State Fair Grounds

  • We need parents to volunteer to chaperone (Ride Bus with students - 2 per bus ) and march with kids during parade (6-8 parents needed)

  • We need parents to be stationed along the parade route.  We also need parents to march along with the band and have water bottles to hydrate marching band (pull wagon full of water?).  Wear purple show shirt or MHS shirt if possible.

  • We need parents at the end of the parade (Home Depot Parking Lot) to provide Snacks and water to band members at end of parade.

 

MARCHING BAND FEES FOR NEXT YEAR

  • Our fees for marching season next year will be $165, based on costs this year, and no Fall Trip for next year. 

  • If you need to purchase marching shoes, they will be $35 (make sure you check our bin of gently used shoes first!)

  • Note, there will also be an additional class fee of $35 for all band classes (paid to Manzano High School) next year as well.  

  • We will be offering scholarships (for marching fees only) once again! Click here to find the form

DONATIONS NEEDED!  CAN YOU HELP? 

  • Snacks and Drinks for the fall season!

    • We give the kids snacks during band camp, during half time and at competitions.  Individually wrapped snack crackers, chips, granola bars, cookies, are the best (they don’t melt…).

    • Drinks? Water is best!

  • Uniform room donations

    • Hair ties, hair spray, thin head bands, black socks, bobby pins, makeup remover cloths, nail polish remover.  All these items are used to help us get ready for competitions

  • 12” balloons – These are used during marching practice for breathing exercises

    • Sign up for as many games or competitions as you want.  Note that competitions are most of the day and/or evening!

    • we'll also have a March-A-Thon - date TBD, not on the signup page yet, but keep check back!

  • All chaperones must have a current APS background check. These expire every 2 years

  • You can request one on the APS volunteer website.  Click here!  The cost is $12.

  • Once you apply it can take up to 3 weeks to process.

  • We need help moving the equipment used for the front ensemble out for most all the football games and at ALL the competitions! Sign up at our SignUpGenius Page. Click here!

PARENTS, WE NEED HELP SETTING UP OUR PROPS!

  • The current plans for props are 2 large (30' x 30') vinyl mats, one white, one black.  These will be spread out prior to the band taking the field and will require quite a few people to get it done!  

  • Props may or may not be displayed at every football game, but they will DEFINITELY be displayed at competitions -- this is where we will need the most help! 

  • Sign up for as many events as you want.

  • Note:  Times for the competitions (Zia, Valencia, POB, District MPA) are estimated -- we don't have our performance times yet.
