Manzano, A. Montoya, San Antonito and Roosevelt are considered East Mountain Schools. However, Manzano may have its own schedule different from an East Mountain cancellation.
Students, parents and staff are notified via a School Messenger call when any change is made to the schedule due to weather. The district makes the decision and if it impacts the entire district, sends out the call. If it impacts only East Mountain Schools, those schools are notified and they activate the School Messenger system.
Here's a quick summary of the options.
- Entire district canceled for the day-No School
- Entire district on a 2-hour delay. School begins 2 hours later than normal
- District regular schedule, East Mountain 2-hour delay. East Mountain schools, including Manzano start 2 hours later than normal.
- District regular schedule, East Mountain Closed. If mountain schools are closed on the first announcement, Manzano will follow the city school schedule. If the mountain schools are put on a delay, and changed to a cancellation, Manzano remains on a 2-hour day.
On abbreviated schedule days, there is NO zero hour, breakfast is NOT served, buses run 2 hours later than normal. Return home is at the normal time.
In addition to the School Messenger system, all delay and cancellation decisions are announced on radio and TV, as well as the APS website, the MHS Cluster Intranet sites and even Twitter. There is no need to call the school, just check online or on the air.
Decisions to delay are normally made by 5:30 am, and sometimes the night before.
A change to cancel after an initial delay announcement is normally made by 8am.
In the case, school needs to be dismissed early due to weather, that decision is normally made by 11:30 am.
