Crossroads Program
The Crossroads Program At Manzano High School
Crossroads is a program in the APS Student, Family, and Community Supports Division, which provides substance use prevention and intervention services at various APS high schools.
The objectives of the program are to prevent and reduce alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, and to improve school performance. Our program is an evidence-based, model program which consists of several components to include: individual counseling, prevention strategies, assisting students with community resources, and the Parent Involvement Program (PIP)—a program for students and parents/guardians to attend for drug and alcohol prevention education. The PIP program topics include:
- Communication Skills
- Adolescent Brain Development
- Problem Solving Skills
- Parent/Guardian and Teen Issues
Services are available to any student who attends Manzano, and the services provided are confidential in nature (except in cases of reported abuse, neglect, suicidal ideation, and/or safety threats.) Students may seek assistance from the Crossroads Counselor to ask questions and obtain information about substances even if the student does not have a problem with substance use, or in cases where there may be substance use with another family member.
An individual referral to Crossroads can be made by anyone: teacher, student (self or friend), parent, social worker, school counselor, principal, nurse, or security. A referral to Crossroads may help avoid future problems with substance use when the student is identified early on and provided with some information and resources. Individual services are voluntary and the student may choose whether or not to participate in the program.
