School-Based Behavioral Health/Mental Health Support At Manzano High School

School-Based Behavioral Health/Mental Health Therapists are part of the APS Student, Family, and Community Supports Division, which provides social emotional support services at various APS high schools.

APS Behavioral Health/Mental Health Therapists provide supports for the non-academic, social emotional needs of all students at Manzano High School. The Behavioral Health/Mental Health Therapist provides behavioral, emotional and psychoeducational counseling to groups and individuals, and assists students in adjusting to school and community life. The primary focus of this role is to immediately reduce distress in students and increase coping skills so that students can better focus on their academic success.

The objectives of having a Behavioral Health/Mental Health Therapist in the schools are to reduce the barriers to students being able to receive timely mental health support, to reduce student distress, and to sustain academic progress. Therapists provide individual counseling, family counseling, group counseling, and assist students with community resources (i.e. finding longer-term therapeutic solutions, more specialized therapeutic services, etc).

Services are available to any student who attends Manzano, and the services provided are confidential in nature (except in cases of reported abuse, neglect, suicidal ideation, and/or safety threats.)  Individual services are voluntary and the student may choose whether or not to participate at any time.
